Bryan Weakley

Bryan Weakley enters his third season as head coach of AIA Prep and his 5th year overall with Athletes in Action.  He has 14 years of NCAA D2 coaching experience and is Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) all-time winningest basketball coach. He left collegiate coaching in 2018 to follow his call into full time sports ministry. 

In his 6 seasons as a head coach at TAMIU (2012-18), Weakley led the team to 2 Heartland Conference titles and 5 conference tournament appearances, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2014. It was only the second time in school history the school won the conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament. They set a school record for wins going 22-9 and had a win streak of 13 games in a row.  It was the first time for TAMIU to receive votes for the top 25 in the NABC Poll and they had the highest regional ranking in school history.  In 2017, he won the Heartland Conference regular season title.  As head coach at TAMIU, he produced 9 all conference players, Newcomer of the Year Matthew Culliver, Defensive Player of the Year & Heartland Conference Tournament MVP Jordan Clark, had an average team GPA of 3.0, and 21 mens basketball graduates.

As associate head coach at TAMIU (2009-12), he was part of staff that compiled a 54-32 record, winning two Heartland Conference Regular season titles and a Heartland Conference Tournament Championship in 2010 earning an appearance in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.. He was instrumental in helping Evan Matteson earn NCAA Division II Bulletin All-American recognition. Matteson was later drafted by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League.  He helped produce seven all conference players, Heartland Conference MVP Evan Matteson, Heartland Conference Tournament MVP Ryan McLucas, had an average team GPA of 3.0, and 12 men's basketball graduates.  

Weakley got his first taste of coaching at the NCAA collegiate level when he joined the staff at University of Alaska Anchorage (2004-09) as an assistant. He assisted the Seawolves to three straight NCAA tournament appearances and was part of a Seawolves staff which achieved victories against nationally recognized NCAA Division I and II opponents. In 2007-08, the Seawolves posted the best record in school history (29-6) en route to the program’s first Final Four appearance. They entered the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed after being ranked in the Top-10 nationally throughout the season.

He began his coaching career in England. During his tenure as the head coach at Middlesex University (2003-04), he led the team to a perfect 30-0 record and the school’s first BUSU National Tournament title. He also served as a development basketball coach for London Towers in the British Basketball League during his time overseas.

Weakley earned all-conference and All-American honors at Biola University leading the Eagles to 112 wins and four straight national tournament appearances during his playing career.  He is the schools all time three point shooter and was team captain his junior and senior seasons.  He played for Hall of Fame coach Dave Holmquist who is college basketball's 4th all time wins leader.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a minor in biblical studies in 2002.

He and his wife Terra are the parents of four children…Jonathan (14), Makiah (12), Dathan (10) and Warren (6). His father, Scott, and brothers, Kevin and Jason, also earned All-American basketball honors at the collegiate level.
